Last week my desk looked like this, as I worked on 4 bird paintings commissioned by the most patient patron who ever lived, my former boss Marianne, from Reed College in Portland.

camo and maude

My friend Taro from Japan was here last week, and brought me some cool fabric. Last time Taro visited he brought me a Japanese craft book, which I used to make Maude bear (in pink) and most recently, Camo bear for a gift for Taro. I thought, what would a boy want out of this book? And then I saw my ripped up old camo pants on the sewing desk and I knew what to make! You see, the bear is urban, he got into a street fight and you might notice that his bottom right paw has been stitched up, it will stay that way permantly, just the way that other street-smart bears have permanent scars. I do hope Taro likes the bear, crooked this and that and all!

lulu with zipper lottery

I was down to a few zippers and came into this bounty of zippers! I’ll be making zippered things for years to come. Yay! Lulu is feeling better enough to model, but that’s about it. No playing fetch yet, still not back to her normal self. She’s taking her Rx like a good girl though, she’ll eat anything as long as it’s wrapped in a piece of lunch meat!!!

LULU xoxo Shoe

Rose emailed to let me know that a shoe that was named after Lulu is in stores now! She wasn’t sure it was ever going to be made, but here it is, and I also saw it in the flesh. This is the good news, that Lulu is famous or at least a cute inspiration. The bad news is that I just spent $550 on her at the vet, and that she’s very sad and tired right now. Poor thing, she needed 3 teeth extracted, and also an “ear” flush to help her terribly stinky ears (she has airborne allergies, so bad that she needed the ear flush and an anti-inflamatory injection. My little tough girl is on antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, and baby aspirin, oh and only soft food. I’ve never seen her so subdued before, I’m sure she’s in a lot of pain, but I’m hoping that taking care of this now will mean she’ll have a better quality of life. She’s 7 or 8 now, so about 60 years old in human years. The vet considers her a senior!!! Anyway, I keep trying to cheer her up by reminding her of the XOXO Lulu shoe!!!!
