If I could just be a journalist and travel around photographing, sampling and writing about things that taste and look good, I’d do it! But for now, I bring my sampling and photos and writing to you all. Lombardi’s pizza is divine, thank you Sue, for telling us we had to go there, because after living in NY for 3 months, I cannot believe I didn’t go until this past week. IT WAS SO GOOD, so perfect. YUM! Tomorrow I’ll update photos from our Palm Springs trip.

What a trip! It was busy, the weather was cooler (thank goodness) and I got to check off a few more must’s in NY… saw friends (Hi Taro, Aya, Rose and Pete!) It was a good time, except for the trip back, which involved your basic travel hell-type of deal. We couldn’t land in Chicago for a while because of a torrential rain episode… circled in the air for quite a while, almost landed in Wichita, but finally landed at Ohare in Chicago. Subsequently missed the connection to San Diego. Finally got a flight into San Diego. Hung out there for about 6 hours, then drove 3 hours to Palm Springs. So we hung out in 3 time zones, and 3 States (and 4 cities) on Thursday… all on 4 hours of sleep. Party on!

Can we all sing…. “take my breath away, away, away…” You cannot even begin to get this piece unless you see it. Those postage size thumbnails in the art history books… well FUGAETABOUTIT!!!!! Love you Picasso. Everything you ever did; sculpture, drawing, painting, etching, whoa. Just great.

And the best way to add to an already surreal day is to go to the Museum of Modern Art, in NY, and be stunned by all the beautiful art that we’ve only seen in art history books. The work was absolutely breathtaking.. adding to the craziness, as Rose so eloquently noticed, you are gradually taken up to the 4th or 5th floor, to see the real celebrities of Modern Art; e.g. Picasso, Matisse, DeKooning, etc, etc. Absolutely amazing. Out of breath and overwhelmed, we sought refuge in a coffee shop and enjoyed nice cakes and tea!

This is why it’s so great I have a little camera to entertain myself with. I got on this little people mover and it was the most surreal experience, with wierd ambient music, not quite asleep yet hardly awake.. trying to find my NY gate!

Exploring the Ohare airport at 4:00 a.m. was interesting, especially since I’d taken a sleep-aid and there was hardly anybody around, or anything open.

I am lucky and thankful that I get to go back to New York, for a short visit! I’m leaving Saturday and returning next Thursday.

It’s made from a salvaged door cut down to size and painted. It has doors that fold closed enabling it to fit intside it’s carrying case. The cross is velcroed on and when it’s put away, the cross velcro’s to the side of the carrying case. I made some little fimo clay skulls to add to the clay and paper flowers, candles, religious ephemera, food offerings, wood, plastic and rubber animals, and of course, the Virgin Mary.

Here it is today, in all of it’s over-the-top decoration, complete with lots of important symbols relative to a Mexican-Catholic shrine. It’s going to be part of a Day of the Dead Art show here in Santa Barbara next month.
