Portable Shrine

A few years ago when I created this Shrine, based on the very over-the-top variety found in Mexico, this is what it looked like. It fit neatly into a handmade portable carrying case, and was meant to be sort-of funny, like appealing to the American’s hunger for all things disposable and portable. We’re just such materialistic freaks, consuming and possessing so much, and we do like to take everything with us in our big cars. Anyways, my point is, that over the years I’ve collected more objects for this piece. Some found objects, some things people have given me, some very lucky scores at various goodwills. I left the critique with the constructive critisism that although the shrine certainly felt “Mexican-ish” it wasn’t over the top enough. I agree, and luckily, time has allowed me to slowly add to it. See how it looks today!
