Doodlin’

These types of drawings are hot right now. I didn’t know that when I doodled it about two month ago or so. Then I went to a trend presentation put on in L.A. by WGSN, and lo and behold, I was trendy and I didn’t even know it. The presentation forecasted Apparal and Accessory Design trends, and doodle style (like you used to do on your binder in school) are big. I do notice them here and there on some juniors apparel, the hand-drawn look is in… but anyways, sometimes sketching patterns and doodles can be as fun as knitting. No expectations, and the chance to use fun symbols and lines and stuff that in other cases need to make sense.

Scarf Montage

Can anyone really only work on one knitting project at a time? I suppose if it’s something more intricate than a garter stitch scarf, you might be compelled to work on just one project at at time. But, I, folks, just physically cannot work on only one knitting project at at time. Here you can see the four scarves I am working on. One is handyed and handspun yarn from a llama farm in Colorado (the pinky multi-color one), one is a handyed cotton yarn (small pinky one), one is a kid mohair blend (green with fabric woven in) and one appropriate for a gent (grey and darker grey peruvian wool.) Now, I am determined to have them all finished for gifts for Christmas, and perhaps a few more done too? We shall see.

Have I mentioned that I love having the scanner up and running?

I sketched many birds to prepare for my reduction of them, into modern birds. Here you can see some of the sketches that helped me reduce them to just a few shapes.

The scanner is up and running and I’m going through my sketchbook to scan various drawings of both art and fashion and design work, in preparation to get my portfolio show-ready. More later!

My Mom just got out of a 5 hour shoulder surgery. Something about a bicep tendon needing to be cut and reattached? It’s so painful, she’ll be on a morphine drip for a while. This is her 11th Arm/Hand/Shoulder surgery for a work injury she sustained over 7 years ago! Please send her good thoughts.
