drawing

Drawing for a living… among other things… I wish pat, brenden, joey and rachel could see me now, my drawing instructors from Portland State University, they might say “i told you so…” i so screwed around in class because I was a bratty sculpture major and found drawing class to be tedious and a thorn in my side. part of me regrets this attitude, cuz it’s so very neccesary. What am I going to do, sculpt my shoes out of clay? Luckily, i have a good teacher now who’ll not let me off the hook so easy… and offer very relevant tips for the task at hand.

Hi. Today was my first day as a shoe designer in NYC, and it was a very good day. I wasn’t to full of nerves, just a bit, and I was guided and directed very gently through my day. Of course there are more details, but this leads me to my next subject.

I’ve been thinking for some time what should become of funcupcake.com. It’s not what I thought it would be. However, having said that, I do love taking pictures, writing, and having a social newsletter for my friends and family to read. But I feel it’s time to do something different, though I’m not sure what.

At this time, I am going to take a website vacation. Give me a few weeks, and I will figure out what to do next and how to do it. If you want to be on my mailing list to be part of what I do next, please send me an email at sarahroldanATgmailDOTcom. I will gladly keep you updated. And I welcome your comments, questions and feedback. For now, I need to focus on my new life, my new career, and sort out how I will interact via the web in the future. xoxo Sarah

Malia’s roomates bunny hops around the house like a cat or small dog… he is so cute. Rose and I went to Soho yesterday and did a little shopping and then we went to Brooklyn to see Malia and drink wine and hang out with the bunny and eat dinner and wander around Dumbo and Vinegar Hill.

In other news, I have won the bid and will be getting another camera within a week or so! It’s the same as my old one, and I’m happy about it. No more of these grainy, flash-less photos from my phone.

Tomorrow I will be a shoe designer. I will let you know how it goes!

We are Cancers.. see us pinch.

I had a fun last day at work. And a very fun night out. My friends at work were so good to me, taking me out, buying me a gift from YSL, and each one writing me a special note. They treated me to a very fun night of drinking and eating and so much laughing my cheeks hurt today. Thank you so much guys! I will miss working with each of you but I will think of you each time I pull out my YSL business card holder to hand out one of my new business cards! The slaughtered lamb in the West Village provides a fun dungeon to celebrate in…

Goodbye YSL!

Originally uploaded by FunCupcake.

It’s a sad day folks. I’m turning over a new leaf, leaving behind something that’s been home to me for the past 2 months. But making room to start what I came to NY to do, and that’s be a footwear designer. Today is my last day at YSL. Tonight I will go out with my co-workers to celebrate our friendship, and my new adventure. Ann has so graciously lent me her camera so stay-tuned, there will definitely be documentation of the night. Hopefully I can post it this weekend. Meanwhile, I’m trying to outbid somebody on ebay for the exact camera I used to have and love so much, my little Olympus Stylus Verve. I want that thing back!

I will miss my friends at work so much, but will not miss the cycle-counts and inventory, 8+ hours in heels standing on concrete, and the occasional and odd customer (always around the full moon time) who just makes you wonder if humanity has gone to hell in a hand-basket. It’s bittersweet to say goodbye, but I will never forget my time at YSL, it marks a very important transition time in my life and the job brought me to some great friends. Now let’s all go to Down the Hatch and eat buffalo wings and drink beer! Yeah!
