We searched high and low for a suitable jungle print to use in our August 2007 footwear line. Couldn’t find one, even the swimsuit department at Bloomingdales lacked a proper jungle print! So, I found some tropical leaves and incorporated them into an idea for a jungle print, and drew this up. Of course it would be colored, perhaps a lovely midtone green for the Monstera/Philodendren leaf, and a nice earthy brown for some vines, and maybe a spot of orange for the bird of paradise… Not sure if we’ll use it, but I do like the exercise of assembling the elements and drawing it up. Can you imagine the possibilities for how the print will be used? Linings? Fabric or Canvas uppers? The possibilities…

While waiting for the subway, I often look down into the tracks and watch the subway rats scurry around. They are down on the tracks, and as long as they are far from crossing my path, I find them (any animal really) interesting to watch. I like to see how they move, from afar of course! However the other day, there were maintenance workers on the tracks. It was wierd to see big creatures on the tracks instead of the small ones. Big creatures don’t have nearly as interesting movements as the small little spastic ones do. Nothing glamorous or philosophical or poignant to say about this experience, because sometimes basic life is enough to report about.

Jennifer & Adrian and I took an art show at the Jonathan LeVine Gallery in Chelsea and saw new paintings by Jonathan Weiner. Good stuff! Then we wandered down to the Lower East Side and did our own pub crawl which included the infamous C.B.G.B. O.M.F.U.G. Fun times! It wasn’t the Star Bar in Ventura or the Wildcat in Santa Barbara where we might have all hung out when we all lived in California. It’s New York! My face hurts from laughing so much, and that’s a good kind of pain!
