I’m lucky to have friends and family who believe i should spread out my birthday celebrations over the course of a week! Basically, I started celebrating last Wednesday and the festivities will culminate this coming Wednesay, June 28th, when I turn 30! The big 3-0!!!! I have some grey hairs, a few wrinkles (but they are from smiling, I swear!) and a whole new sense of myself; what I want, what I need, what I’m capable of, and what’s important! My already 30-year old friends have told me that the 30’s are the best! 20’s are full of figuring stuff out, but in your 30’s, you get to actually be who you are, because you know!

Thank you so much to my friends in NY for celebrating with me on Saturday! Thanks Rose, Farah, Cynthia, Pilar, Maria, Lydia, Malia and David for coming out on Saturday and surrounding me with love and friendship, and delicious food and drinks!! And to those of you who couldn’t make it, please know that you were missed! And there are still a few days left in my enforced week of celebrating, so see ya’ll Tuesday at Double Happiness in Chinatown?!

And since Funcupcake.com is about a year old, it deserves a birthday present too, which I’m working on, so stay tuned!

The lovely NYC summer stench is here! Just in time for festive birthday celebrations, and monsoon weather, resulting in puddles of filth, standing water with mosquitos hovering, but hey, maybe some of the dog poo will be cleaned off the streets?

Anyway, there is nothing more delightful than to have a reward for walking past dumpsters full of more stench, than cutey graffiti! That is if you’re able to avert your eyes up from the filthy sidewalk in order to see it! There is some really good graffiti in Soho and the Lower East Side.

This weekend I went back to Williamsburg and checked out the second annual Renegade Craft Fair. Snapped this shot of Rose in front of one of many walls with public art on it. Williamsburg really reminds me of San Francisco or Portland, it’s cool over there! We lunched with Adrian and Jennifer and then Rose and I watched the US vs. Italy Worldcup match in a pub, and walked around and enjoyed being out of Manhattan for a moment! I also got to see Tara who was in town from Portland this weekend! As well as Phil who was in town from Santa Barbara, and get the old crew (Melinda, Jennifer and Adrian) together for a night of chinese food, true chinese-style karaoke, and dancing to reggae. After dinner we traveled around in a pack of 12 and came the the conclusion that there are no homeless people in Chinatown! At one point, we shared an ironic moment while walking around in expensive shoes drinking a St. Ides 40 ounce out of a paper bag. Armani and St. Ides? Old habits die hard, and who says just because you’re in Manhattan you need to sip martinis? I guess we don’t do that so often, but ever so often it just seems appropriate! Why Not! It was really fun weekend and have I mentioned it’s 93 degrees here? Hot!

Every once in a while the YSL posse, or some form of them, has to get together. We have to get together and sort things out. We hash out the same problems that were there when i was there in February, and then we have a toast and talk about life. For example, Pilar just got married! Davide had a part in the recently released pink panther! Cynthia is embarking on some exciting prospects for future business successes! And I, well I just enjoy the fact that I have these friends who know me in my new life, as I am now, in this place doing these things. It’s always fun times with really great people!
