Working on a new drawing. I’m so inspired by the beautiful styling and lighting in photography. This drawing was inspired by a various assortment of objects as seen in magazines and some from my own photography. Somehow it just seemed right to highlight chains, sweet peas, flowering trees in bloom, and some large cabochon jewels. Tune in to see the other layers I add!

Finished this one. There’s a lot going on here! If I had to name this piece something, I’d name it ‘groupies.’ The walrus, polar bear and penguin are groupies for the blasting sound system at the rockin’ party. Have a nice weekend!

I smell a rat!!!

smellarat
The other day while eating pizza I overheard a loud, Italian Boston accent exclaiming “I smell a rat!” Obviously, the guy meant somebody was lieing or cheating or otherwise untrustworthy. It was really over the top and it made me laugh a lot. Later, I saw this Rat image in one of the Boston weekly papers. So I cut it out and scribbled around it a little with a few other unrelated things, and now I have immortalized that moment of overhearing somebody say “I smell a rat.” Like straight outta a movie I tell ya. Very entertaining.

winthrop - beach
I didn’t take any photos of the crazy Nor’easter storm we had last week, but there was a lot of flooding with the high tide and things were a bit salty all-around. Then, after a few days it cleared up and the sun came out, and I got a look at what life here is going to be like this summer. Lovely.
found shells & rocks
Collected some shells to add to some rocks collected in Santa Barbara, California.

mussel shells
Found the mussel shells here on the beach.
buoys
Some buoys seen on a walk around the neighborhood.
deer island
Took a walk around Deer Island here in Winthrop, check out the lovely view of downtown Boston. The Boston Harbor is the the left, the Atlantic Ocean is to the right. We live in that strip of land in between the two bodies of water.
lobster & clamswinthrop2
One of the three Lobsters representing the Lobster gravy with homemade pasta & clams we had for dinner.

Banana Bread

Friday, April 20th, 2007

banana bread mashed bananas melting butter butter fingers dropped an egg banana bread almost done banana bread finished sugar and chopped walnuts
I made banana bread today. I buttered the baking dish then an egg slipped out of my buttery hands and it smashed on the ground. Haha. I made a carrot cake from scratch for Easter, but in all my excitement to bake again I forgot to photograph it. There is something very humbling about shredding carrots on a grater, the old-fashioned way. I love to bake! It’s been awhile!

Yellow Cotton Eyelet, a lamp, and a rooster. See the connection? You don’t? Well there is no connection, just teasing you. My laptop screen died this week, so I’m posting some old little sketches from last month I had on flickr. But I’ll be back next week with new photos & drawings when I get my computer back from the computer doctor. I miss it, can’t live without it!

4.13.07_drawing2
The last month or so I’ve been spending a lot of time packing up my old life, transporting it, and then unpacking and setting up my new life! I haven’t been drawing, we just recently bought and set up a table and chairs to work on. Even though I haven’t been producing any drawings, I have been maintaining a mental sketchbook of ideas. And luckily, I feel very inspired in my new life. I have collected a lot of ideas along the way, and now I’m in the perfect (calm & bright) place to work some of those ideas out!

I used to draw at night a lot when I lived in NYC because I often suffered from insomnia, something I’ve never experienced before in my life. Now the insomnia is gone! Yay! I bought a nice recycled, natural paper sketchbook before I left New York and here’s the first page in it. I’ll get back on track next week, but first am heading to NYC for the night for a friends birthday celebration.

Oh, and welcome to my new website layout! What do you think? Thanks to my friend and webhost Jake for making it all work!!

Happy Easter

Sunday, April 8th, 2007

small_sarah
Sending you a happy easter from me circa early 80’s. I can remember fond memories of biting the head off of a hollow chocolate bunny as a kid. Pretty violent for a supposed animal-lover! And I’m not even a big chocolate-fanatic, I liked those malt-ball eggs the most, and I can remember the belly aches that came from eating too many of them. Anyways, back next week with more!
