We had an excellent cajun party with tons of food and friends and family and great weather! Close to 50 people came, including 3 of my friends from NYC. A great way to kick off summer! Woohoo!

In Central Park last May

Friday, May 25th, 2007

A year ago it was all about picnicing in central park with david and rose! We were there to check out the phenomonon of Manhattan Henge, have you heard of it? Well we got a little distracted with a bottle of wine and sharing music on our ipods, so I think we missed it, but it was still fun times in central park! This year I’ll be eating cajun food next to the ocean, so another great way to spend Memorial Day Weekend. Enjoy yours! More funny videos here.

I set up my religious icon collection and did a little fixing on my shrine, which took a beating when it was shipped from California out to Boston.
philodendren
jadeplant
Finally have some plants to take care of again! A nice philodendren and a jade plant. A tomato plant out on the porch too. I love taking care of plants, probably thanks to my earthy Portland upbringing in which working in the yard was top priority for the family, and watering the millions of plants around the house.

And on Monday I enjoyed petting, holding and carrying around a 2-month old half golden retriever/half lab, who was sweet as pie. We were very tempted to steal him but alas, he belongs to somebody else!

Monday, May 14th, 2007

All right people, I’m getting ready to open my online shop (well technically it IS OPEN FOR BUSINESS, I am continuing to add prints and photos and drawings daily.) For my grand opening, I wanted to throw a little contest! Please help me pick out funcupcake’s mailing label! Leave a comment on this post voting for your favorite label design (either Label 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6.) Of the label design with the most votes, a winner will be randomly selected and will receive a free funcupcake original print like the ones for sale in my shop! You can only vote once, so make sure you pick a winner! Contest ends Saturday, May 19th! The winner will be announced and the print shipped Monday, May 21st!

invite_WIP
We are throwing a cajun creole party for Memorial Day weekend, and after doing lots of research on all kinds of lovely things to draw for the invite (crawfish, gumbo, cocktails, shrimp, fish, trombones and other brass instruments, beautiful wrought iron details in architecture) I settled on this image of a perspective view of New Orleans house, complete with decorative wrought iron. The bottom half is going to list the menu in handwritten letters, as well as the other important info. Should be fun! And now, I must get to work drawing shoes in Illustrator for my latest footwear freelance assignment here in Boston.

My footwear picks for spring ‘07

repettos

Dolce Vita, Nine West, Nine West, Poetic License, Repetto, Kenneth Cole, & Chinese Laundry. Irresistible shiny materials (patents & metallics.) Flats with interesting details (peep-toes, ankle straps, contrast binding, bling) and the occasional wedge. Yay for Spring Footwear! No I didn’t just go buy a bunch of pairs of shoes, but over the course of the last year, my little spring collection has been building, but they are just now seeing the light of day with the spring weather that is (finally) here on the East Coast. It’s true, while shopping all around the U.S. and Europe for footwear inspiration for work, it’s hard to not snag a pair for yourself every now and again. Especially once you’ve seen so much of the same everywhere, you know a good deal when you see one, and you know when you are seeing something special too.

And check out these cute Joseph Campbell ankle boots I got on my last shoe shopping trip to California! Snazz-eh and a super deal!

Mother and Baby Bird
Well not quite in time for Mother’s Day cards for sale, but worked on this birdy drawing a bit more. Pen and ink drawing, colored in Photoshop. I’ve started adding prints to my new etsy shop, please click here to get this 5″ x 6″ print on heavy matte archival paper! I will continue to update more prints and photographs for sale, so stay tuned!

Squirrels be gone…

squirrel_face_feet
There is a family of squirrels terrorizing us! First they kicked out the birds who were building a nest in the eves of the house, now there are at least 4 of them, running up and down the gutters and defiantly refusing to relocate. At first it was really cute to see one peaking out, little beady eye and whiskers, now it’s time for them to go! See the little nose and paws sticking out of the eve on the upper right hand part of the photo?
