7.21.07_drawing_colored
Colored this one. Those cute bunnies and carrots are killing me, they are so funny. I think of these drawings as developed sketches, for further, more thought out pieces. I can see the stronger elements of this particular drawing, and can now go back and do a piece focused on just those elements.

*Oh. And I’m looking for a great website builder! Somebody who can program a site for me for my art/craft. I have the ideas for the navigation and would be doing the graphics myself, I just need somebody technical who can make it all work! Are you out there, or do you have any referrals for me?

Another drawing in progress. I recently had my eyes checked and have to wear glasses for distance and a astigmatism. The Dr. asked me three times why I don’t wear my glasses anymore (from a Rx I got back in ‘99) and I kept saying because I haven’t driven in over 2 years, but now I’ll start driving again so the glasses go back on again. Better eat more carrots.

Graduating from school

My little angel Cowboy is graduating from puppy school this week! I cannot believe It’s been over 6 weeks since we brought him home! He is now 4 months old. He has doubled in size, and I love every little bit about him. He is such a smart, beautiful and happy little guy. He sleeps the whole night through on his pillow next to the bed, without a peep or an accident. He loves meeting every person and dog he encounters on his walks, he’s friendly and everyone remarks on his beautiful color and happy disposition. He is completely potty trained. This past week he grew most of his new adult teeth on top, still waiting for the little needles to be pushed out on the bottom! His confidence has been really growing lately with more interaction with other big dogs. So along with the Puggle, Chihuahua and Shitzu (all under 10 pounds!) next Thursday he officially graduates from puppy school.

7.9.07
I finished drawing and coloring this in. See the progression. I was inspired by various items (and I suppose the overall theme of consumption) from things found in catalogs, magazines and whatnot. I drew it by hand and colored it digitally, in photoshop. When I was visiting London last fall, I saw a nice grouping of lovely pendant lights in Top Shop. Such a nice visual impact, seeing clusters of things. I like the cylindrical shape, and I just doodled on some random patterns. Seems like for a London reference, I needed to throw a tea pot in there too. I saw some lovely jewelery in a Bloomingdales catalog, lots of chunky roses. Chains were such a big theme for hardware on all the Spring/Summer footwear I designed, I can’t get the chains outta my head! I like that they are nautical, as well, that’s really the more pertinent reference, I see them all over our little coastal town here. And I have been consuming so much lime lately, really chugging the Paul Newmans Limeade, and having a twist of lime in a nice bourbon and soda water cocktail in the evening. And margaritas being whipped up in the new blender. We even had key lime pie for the cajun party in May, I love lime!! Lemon, don’t be jealous, I love you just as much!

Now, what shall we draw next? I have to say, I am so excited about this 2008 calendar I am designing and drawing, which I will have for sale, I can’t wait to show you guys! I need to work out the prototype a little more. It involves sewing, paper, and illustration. That’s all I got for now!

Renegade Craft Fair - Chicago

Chicago Renegade Craft Fair
Chicago Renegade Craft Fair
I am so excited to announce that funcupcake will be at the Renegade Craft fair in Chicago this year, September 15th & 16th! I will be sharing a booth with my good friend Tara who designs and makes these innovative and adorable, bike-friendly accessories to wear! We are honored that we were chosen out of over 400 applicants for a spot to display and sell our handmade wares in a fun, street-fair atmosphere in Chi town! I have only been to the Chicago airport, never to the city itself. You might remember these photos on funcupcake in previous posts about the Brooklyn Renegade Craft Fairs that I attended in 2005 & 2006. A fun and creative environment full of hard-working do-it-yourself’ers!

My mind is swirling about this opportunity to present a collection of funcupcake-wares. Some projects already in the works, that will also be available for sale in my online shop include; screenprinted T-shirts of my illustrations, more colored, archival prints like this one, greeting cards and stationary sets with my drawings, some fun ‘zines, screenprinted tote bags, and whatever else the funcupcake handmade factory comes up with between now and then! I have a calendar design in mind, as well as some special stuffed plush in the making!

Tara lives in Portland, Oregon and I’m out here in Boston, so we’ll fly into Chicago, meet up and scurry around to find our hotel, rent our tables and chairs, set up our booths, and spend the weekend setting up, selling, tearing down, etc, etc. Should be a fun albeit busy weekend! I know that craft fairs are hard work, but I also know we’ll make the best of it and have a lot of fun!
